
The event boasted a lineup of 68 for the 2nd edition of the Mtahleb Hill climb hosted by the Rabat local council spearheaded by Mayor Sandro Craus.
The 5th championship race organised by The Island Car Club started at 9am and managed to finish the 4 runs proving again that The Island Car Club is in the forefront of Motor Sport organisation.
After the first timed run Hubert Camilleri dominated the scene with the best time of 53.961 seconds. Followed by Alan Curmi and Zach Zammit clocking times of 54.549 and 54.650 seconds respectively.
Nicolai De Gorgio in his Raging Lancia was the 1st of the saloon cars with an impressive 57.440 seconds closely followed by Joseph Cutajar in an Escort MK2 Cosworth and the flying Doctor Bernard driving his Mitsubishi Evo.
John Zammit's Lotus and Teddy Aquilina's Escort finished the 1st run in the top ten in just over a minute, which provided a great spectacle for the crowd and serious competition for the drivers.
The 2nd timed run saw improvements from all the drivers as the day became warmed up providing the track with more grip and boosting drivers confidence in their cars.
The final run had the spectators on edge with Hubert Camilleri's Chevron “Got to be Glued” , achieving a new Mtahleb record time of 53.268 seconds. Followed by Curmi in his J & J single seater and Zammit in his Jagger Ralt Honda.
Notable times were also clocked by Mark Micallef in his yellow Alfa Sud,Etienne Grech in his Citroen Saxo and Jason Muscat in his Clubsport Radical.
At the end of the event,the top 10 ranking was:
H.Camilleri , C.Curmi, Z.Zammit, J.Muscat, N. De Giorgio, J.Cutajar, A.Bernard, E.Calleja, G.Farrugia & M.Micallef .
